NASCAR: Listening Before It’s Too Late

Filed under: ashley brown — albrown at 9:05 am on Monday, April 7, 2008

Most companies undergo changes over the years to keep up with the latest trends and attract more people. NASCAR has gone through several changes in policies, entertainment and other areas over the past few years and their fans haven’t been happy.

A lot of times companies loose sight of what’s important, but that wasn’t the case with NASCAR. When fans began calling and sending in letters about their concern with the recent changes, NASCAR listened.  Many fans were upset with NASCAR’s move away from country music to more pop like Kelly Clarkson. They were also frustrated with the penalty for drivers speaking their minds. (Read on …)

Myspace Monsters

Social networking Web sites such as MySpace and Facebook are extremely popular among people of all ages. Members of these sites are provided with the opportunity to meet and connect with people across the globe. In 1996, Congress enacted a law to protect companies like these and to help encourage Internet growth. These sites have numerous benefits, but they also provide an opportunity for sexual predators to target minors. To join MySpace, children have to be at least 14 years old, but there is no way to verify that information.  (Read on …)

Agency vs. Client PR

There are less than 80 days until I graduate and I still don’t know what I want to do when I graduate. It seems like everyone I’ve talked to lately wants to know the answer to that question, but I don’t have a response. I’ve tried researching different public relations jobs and talked with my professors, but I’m just not sure. (Read on …)

Green with Skepticism

Filed under: ashley brown, greenwashing — albrown at 5:14 pm on Monday, February 18, 2008

It seems as though going green has become the hottest trend. Green campaigns are being embraced by a multitude of corporations such as automobile manufacturers and grocery stores. No matter what you’re shopping for, it seems as if you are faced with a choice between the regular product and a more expensive, but environment-friendly product. (Read on …)

Thinking Proactively

Friday afternoon I received a test text message from Auburn University’s new AU Alert system. This system has been implemented to inform students, faculty and staff via E-mail, voicemail and text messages when there is an emergency situation on campus.

The messages will inform students on immediate actions that they need to take to avoid a crisis. According to the Auburn University Web site, “Examples of alerts include severe weather, building evacuations, dangers requiring lock-down or shelter-in-place, or other emergencies requiring immediate action.” (Read on …)

Filed under: ashley brown, social media — albrown at 10:03 pm on Wednesday, February 6, 2008
